STAY IN ICELAND
Kex hostel
Okay, as many of you know, I like to stay in hostels. Not only are they cheap but they’re a lot of fun. I’ve met so many incredible people at hostels. If you’re traveling solo and you look forward to some human interaction here and there, then a hostel is the way to go. I’ve never seen the movie “Hostel” or whatever and I don’t intend on watching it, either way hostels are great, just make sure to read reviews, don’t leave your locker unlocked or do stupid things. If you feel that someone or something is suspicious, get out.
I found this place on hostelworld.com and I heard from a friend that this place was cute, trendy and in the city centre. Without hesitation I booked this place instantly and it was a great decision. Majority of the staff seem to have migrated to Reykjavik from all over. Many at this hostel specifically seemed to be French, so you’ll hear from French than Icelandic.
This place used to be a biscuit factory turned bar/kitchen and hostel. They offer breakfast and have a wide selection of beers at the bar. Two private bathrooms on each floor with one bathroom communal for each sex, so make sure you wake up before everyone if you want to use the private bathrooms. There’s a kitchen to store, make and enjoy your food— which is a necessity especially in Iceland because eating out is going to cost you 20 Kronas for a food truck fish and chips. Make sure you hit the local Bonus grocery store!
The Kex is also walking distance from the Harp concert hall and downtown Reykjavik is really close, so you can quite literally drunkenly walk yourself home and stop by Domino’s across the street to get a regrettable pizza pie.
I met a lot of people hanging out in communal areas like the kitchen, and one girl I ended up driving around with the next day. Shout out to Julie from Texas! Love ya girl 🖤 I also met Jony from Canada, who I also ended up driving around with. Hi Jony if you’re reading this.
